Cortez Cultural Center

Housed in a 1909 historic building, the Cortez Cultural Center contains a wealth of information on archaeology and American Indian culture. The Center's Museum displays interpretive exhibits on the Basketmaker and Pueblo periods of the Ancestral Pueblo people.

Also featured are displays from the Ute Mountain Ute, Pueblo, and Navajo tribes. Traveling exhibits and local artists' work is featured in the art gallery. A mural on the back of the building depicts a traditional pueblo.

During the summer Native American Dances are held on the plaza Monday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Storytellers, artists, and historians speak about American Indian cultures at 8:30 p.m. following the dances. Lectures, slide shows, and music programs are offered September through May.
